Update on Tim's Radiation & Chemo Treatment

We met with Tim's Radiation doctor, Dr. Shrieve, yesterday afternoon. (Dr. Shrieve is the Director of the Brain Tumor Program and the Department Chair of Radiation Oncology so Tim is in VERY capable hands!) Dr. Shrieve agreed that Tim should go through both radiation and chemo. We decided it would be best to get the treatment at the Hunstman Cancer Institute where Dr. Shrieve would set up his radiation treatments and then the radiation techs from Hunstman would actually administer the doses. He will take the chemo medication (pills) everyday during the radiation

After the meeting, I flew home to be with the boys and get back to work. Tim's parents took him to his radiation "simulation" today, which is where they do a mock radiation session to measure exactly where the radiation will be given. The actual radiation treatments will only take a few minutes each and he will be given a total of 33 treatments. We found out today he will start treatments next Thursday, Sept 25th. That means if he gets all 33 treatments, and doesn't skip a day, he will be done Nov. 11th.

The boys are out of school Oct. 3rd, so I would like to take the month off and spend all of Oct in Utah so the family can be together.

The doctor again said Tim shouldn't be sick at all during the treatments. He even commented that Tim is still healing from surgery and might even feel better at the end of treatment as compared to now because he will have 2 1/2 months of healing behind him.

We'll that's it for now. I'll keep the blog updated and have even included some baseball photos of the boys playing that Tim hasn't seen!
