I saw this idea from the gal who rented our Lakeridge Springs house. She and her family were great friends (even after catching a pack rat)...and now happens to be a great friend and also bought a house just around the corner from our new home (small world)!!! It is a shadow box filled with memories that I made for my mom's birthday. She had old photos, business cards from Univ of Chicago, etc. that belonged to my of my grandfather. I "snatched" them up without her knowing on one of my visits to her house and made sepia colored copies of at Kinko's. I mounted everything on scrapbook paper and then included a few embellishments from the craft store and from my stash and glued them into a keepbox frame. Got the frame at Michael's (purchased with a coupon of course). The whole thing cost about $15 and was the PERFECT gift. In fact, my mom has added her class ring, a silver spoon from her mother, pennies from her baptism, MIA pins, and various other items. I'll have to see if she'll send me a photo of her additions.
Here is the shadow box Melany made and I photographed as a "sample" for my creation.
