Little known fact: I took piano lessons for 8 years when I younger.
I wasn't a fan. I hated practicing. The perfectionist in me could never perfect the art of it and I think that's why I never loved it.
I hate that about me. I hate that I gave up playing the piano because I wasn't very good. Of course I also moved to Missouri, started playing sports,
got REALLY busy, and thought I didn't have time to play the piano.
Should have listened to my mom who always encouraged us
to keep up our piano playing.
Anyway, enough of that!
Since I did take piano lessons and my mom had taken
piano lessons when she was younger I was given an amazing gift for my
40th birthday...my very own baby grand piano!
It was a combination late housewarming present from my mom and dad.
My mom inherited her mom's baby grand and knew all 6 kids coveted wanted it!
She said "I can't chop it into 6 equal pieces, so they gave me some money
for a "housewarming" gift that she said MUST be used for a piano! It was also
my gift to myself for working at the power company for 14 years...
and finally leaving and knowing I'd probably never have enough money
as a teacher to buy a piano.
And last but not least it was my 40th birthday...thus another
reason for such a spectacular gift to myself!
I searched and looked and if you can believe it, found it on eBay! It was in
a home in San Diego so I had a piano technician
check it out, give me the ok, and then had it shipped to Reno by a piano moving company.
AND I FEEL IN LOVE AT FIRST SIGHT. She's a BEAUTY!!!!
I had grand plans for my boys to take piano lessons...
but their plans were VERY different.
I'm trying to figure out a bribe that will get them into lessons.
Maybe promise them a Lamborghini when they turn 16??
One thing I know for sure. I will never get rid of my piano.
I will use it as my dining room table if I have to or
sleep on it if I must...but it is mine, it will be a family heirloom,
and sorry Tim, but it ain't goin' NOWHERE!!!
